Important Update on PVDR’s Adoption Program

Thank you for your interest in adopting a donkey from Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue!
We are currently in the middle of a major transition to a new operating model designed to make our adoption process smoother, faster, and more organized for everyone.

Over time, we received a large number of applications, many more than our previous system could efficiently process. Some applications have been waiting for over a year, and the backlog became too large to manage fairly. To ensure we are meeting the needs of those who are truly still interested in adopting, we have made the decision to pause all existing applications and start fresh when our new system launches.

When Will Adoptions Resume?

We anticipate resuming adoptions this spring, when donkeys are delivered to our Satellite Adoption Centers (SACs) across the country.

We will reopen the adoption application process on January 1st, 2026, and begin accepting new applications only through our updated system.

What to Expect Going Forward

  • Most donkeys will be placed through our SAC network.
  • We expect limited delivery options, so adopters should plan to transport their donkeys themselves.
  • A limited number of donkeys may be available for pickup at our regional offices in North Carolina and Arizona, depending on timing and availability.
  • Our goal is a more streamlined, responsive, and transparent adoption experience for all.

The Importance of a Fully Completed Application

In our previous operating model, many applications were submitted without the required photos, reference phone numbers, or supporting information. This created major delays, confusion, and stalled progress for both staff and adopters, ultimately preventing us from processing applications efficiently or fairly.

Under our new system, we will only move forward with applications that are 100% complete.
This includes:

  • Clear photos of your fencing, shelter, roaming areas and property,
  • Accurate and reachable veterinary and farrier phone numbers,
  • All sections of the application fully filled out,
  • Any additional documentation (such as landlord approval) when applicable.

Applications missing required information will not be processed. Failure to submit a completed application will result in your application being skipped, and applicants who submit complete applications after you will move ahead of you in line.

This ensures that every adopter begins on equal footing, reduces frustration, and allows us to match donkeys to homes in a smooth, organized, and timely way.

By confirming your continued interest and ensuring your application is complete, you help us build a more reliable and rewarding adoption experience for everyone involved.

What If You Have Already Applied?

If you previously submitted an adoption application, here’s what this update means for you:

To ensure we are only moving forward with those who are still actively interested, we ask that you reach out to us directly at adopt@pvdr.org and let us know:

  1. You are still interested in adopting,
  2. You have a completed application on file, and
  3. You acknowledge that adoptions will not resume until Spring 2026, when donkeys arrive at our Satellite Adoption Centers.

This helps us focus our efforts on adopters who remain ready and committed, while giving everyone a fair and organized start under our new operating model.

Thank You for Your Patience

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this transition may cause, especially for those who have been waiting. These changes are necessary to ensure safe, thoughtful, and successful placements for both donkeys and adopters.

We are genuinely excited for this new chapter and for the opportunity to help more families welcome donkeys into their homes.

Thank you for being part of the mission to give donkeys a second chance at life.
